Mathematics Vocabulary Test (MVT)
The MVT is a measure of young children’s mathematics vocabulary in a multilingual majority country. The testing is designed to be an individual interview in children’s preschools. An interviewer poses verbal questions supported by pictures, and the child points to the correct answer from two pictures or gives verbal answers.

Concurrent Validity: Children’s performance in both language versions was related to early numeracy, supporting concurrent validity. Predictive Validity: Children’s performance in the English MVT in the mid of the first grade was predictive of their performance on the English MVT and early numeracy tests 5 months later, indicating good predictive validity. Known-Groups Validity: To assess the concurrent and gender-related known group validity of the isiZulu version of the MVT, SEM model was conducted in which the latent variable for MVT, with 16 indicators found to be structural valid, was correlated with the Preschool Early Numeracy Skills Test (PENS; Purpura et al., 2015) sum score and gender. Content Validity: Evidence of content validity (i.e., the description of the measurement development, and information if the items and measurement are relevant, comprehensive, and comprehensible) was demonstrated in the English and isiZulu versions.STEM Criteria
